I have heard him called "The finist living novelist writing in english", I am not sure if it's true, but it can't be far off. V.S. Naipaul (yes, it does stand for Vidiadhar Surajprasad) was born in Trinidad in 1932, he went to college at Oxford and has been a writer his entire adult life.
