About Larry Holloway
"Red is still there"
"Hi, this is Clark Terry here with a little blurb about a new friend
whom I just had an opportunity to work with .. well, I worked with him
some years ago when he was just a beginner, but he ain't no beginner any
more! And I had a beautiful concert with him last night at Willamette
University in Salem, Oregon. He just played so great, all I could do was
raise up and say, ‘hey, Mitch, is right here at my side, and he was!
He's a marvelous young man, he's a great player and he was the recipient
of the new Red Mitchell Memorial Fund Award which was set up by Red's
widow, Diane Mitchell. And he was the most deserving person I can think
of to receive it. He tunes the bass in 5ths like Red used to do and I
swear if you close your eyes and listen you can hear Mitch right there.
So my hats off to Larry. And all I can say to you, Larry, is keep on
keep'n on because you got it made baby!"
