Two sanctioned clubs meet in or near Portland, OR.
On Thursdays, Scrabble club #370 meets at 6:15 pm at Old Wives' Tales, 1300 East Burnside, Portland. Ordering food is our way of paying rent. The club fee is $2. There, we play four games, with no prizes for overall performance, but one entertaining $2 prize per round, each chosen by the winner of the previous prize. Also, anyone playing a triple-triple wins $5.
On Tuesdays, club #304 meets at Lakewood Community Center for the Arts, 368 S State St, Lake Oswego. We use a brightly-lit former classroom. There we start at 6:45 pm. The fee is $3. Anyone who wins all four paired games wins $5. $3 each goes to the high game and word scorers.
The fee for each club is waived for first-timers, and newcomers are allowed to use lists of the shortest words during their first month. Latecomers (and early-leavers) are welcome. Statistics for both formal clubs are gathered and printed out regularly.

Players gather less formally from around noon (mostly later) to at least 5 pm each Sunday in the side room of Lucky Labrador, a pleasant brewpub, 915 SE Hawthorne Blvd. No one is in charge; players find games by pairing and re-pairing themselves.
